Dressed in creative costumes of all shapes and sizes, more than 400 students filled Kent Dining Hall for the Annual Halloween Dance and Social on Friday, Oct. 28th. The dining hall was transformed for the evening into a haunted pumpkin patch to kick off the weekend’s Halloween festivities on campus. The event, sponsored by the Honors Program Senior Fellows, Student Support Services Program, C4, ThoLaRu, and Residence Life, invited students to decorate pumpkins, participate in the costume competition, and dance to music played by DJ Dommis (sophomore Dom Calvarese).
Individual and group costume prizes were awarded for originality and for the following themes: Superheroes, Reality TV, Harry Potter, and Gothic. The winners of the costume competition received gift certificates to Main Street businesses. Door prizes were drawn throughout the evening and winners received UD apparel.
Attendees were invited to donate money at the door to benefit the Emmaus House and B+, which are supported by the Russell and Central Complexes this year. By the end of the evening, a total of $198 in donations was collected for these two charities.
The dance is a highlight for students each year on Halloween weekend, and it is open each year to students across campus.
