A Glory to the State: The Origins of the University of Delaware
Exhibitions Home
From humble beginnings as a colonial academy, the University of Delaware has grown into a vibrant and innovative education center. Through several name changes, periods of struggle and times of plentiful enrollment, the University survived and prospered, becoming the largest institute of higher education on the Delmarva Peninsula.
A Glory to the State: The Origins of the University of Delaware focuses on the early stages of the University’s development. From its beginnings as a preparatory school, through the chartering of Newark College, from Delaware College’s closure and rebirth in the middle of the nineteenth century to the increasingly vibrant life of its students, this exhibition offers a glimpse of an ever expanding institution.
