Once the Legislature chartered a college, the Board quickly purchased land for a new building at the west end of Newark. Winslow Lewis was hired to design and build the new structure. He produced a Greek revival style building, known today as Old College. This building housed the entire functions of the College, containing a kitchen, dining hall, classrooms, auditorium, and lodgings for students.
