During the 1960s and 1970s, the University of Delaware saw students at a new level of political engagement and commitment. Student political clubs, long a part of the campus community, became more active, giving voice to the turbulence of the period. A Delaware chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, a national New Left student organization, was formed in the mid-1960s, and led protests on campus and in the community.
