Delaware students always have been politically involved, opinionated and engaged. Whether writing about political issues, attending lectures and forums, or protesting local or national events, University of Delaware students have made their opinions known. The earliest social organizations of the university, the literary societies, offered an arena for political debate and commentary. In this essay, written for an Athenaen Literary Society debate, William Clark defends abolition, one of the central topics of political and social discussion of his day.
