Currently the most notable member of Delaware’s alumni, Joe Biden entered the University of Delaware in the autumn of 1961. While a student, Biden was the president of his freshman class. After graduation, Biden attended law school and was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1969. In 1972, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, beating fellow alumnus J. Caleb Boggs; Biden would go on to serve six terms as senator. In 2008, Barack Obama chose Biden as his running mate, and after a successful campaign, he became the first vice president from Delaware.
