It would be impossible to list all the Delaware alumni who contributed to local, state and national politics. They come from different backgrounds, some transplants and some native Delawareans like Joseph Allen Frear from Kent County. Frear, always known by his middle name, was a business man and owner of a dairy farm outside Dover, Delaware before being elected to the U. S. Senate in a close race in 1948. J. Allen Frear served two terms in the Senate, and then was appointed to the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1961.
