Theater productions have been a part of student life since the 1870s. The first student theater group was the Mask and Wig Club, founded in 1901. E-52 Student Theatre, the oldest of the several current student theater groups, began in 1923 as an English class dedicated to producing plays. The E-52 Players were formed in 1931 to allow students not taking the course to participate.
