Agent Letter – December 2015

HolidaysDear 4-H Family:

I’m sure you’re still full from Thanksgiving- and with no time to skip a beat, the holidays will soon be upon us in full swing. As we cruise into December and finish up the year, 4-H has fun and exciting opportunities that you will not want to miss!

Be sure to check out our calendar pages for all of the exciting events coming over the next three months!

Remember, the 4-H office will be closed for the holiday from Thursday, December 24 through Friday, January 1. We will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2016.

Registration forms are now available for the Favorite Foods Contest and the Photography Contest, both taking place on Saturday, January 23 at Kirk Middle School. Details and registration will soon be available for State Teen Conference (January 30-31) and the Leader’s Forum (February 6).

As you know, 2015 seemed to be quite the year of transitions, and we will finish up the year with one more change. Our 4-H Administrative Assistant, Lisa Bishop, has accepted a full-time position in her previous UD department, and will be leaving the Cooperative Extension Office. Although we did not have much time to get acquainted with Lisa, her caring spirit will be missed. We wish Lisa the best as the Assistant Business Manager in the UD Athletics Department. Beginning immediately, please forward all 4-H related questions to Serena Conner.

Happy Holidays from the 4-H Office!

Agent Letter – November 2015

Hello 4-H Family, fall

As we “Fall into November”,  beautiful autumn colors and cooler weather surrounds us. The 4-H office wishes you a very Happy Thanksgiving! I challenge you to take a moment this month to make a list of five things for which you are thankful.

New Castle 4-H had quite a busy October with the following events:

  • 4-H National Youth Science Day – October 7 at Tutor Time School in Newark
  • 4-H Achievement Banquet – October 15 at Kirk Middle School
  • Window Display & Banner Contests – Participation by four 4-H clubs
  • Paper Clover Fundraiser – Various 4-H clubs promoted 4-H at Tractor Supply in Middletown

There are several upcoming 4-H events in November including the Public Speaking Contest, Science Saturdays, and National 4-H Congress. A calendar for the next three months has been included in one of the postings below. Please be sure the review the calendar for detailed information about these events and more!

Welcome to the online News Flash!

Dear 4-Hers,

Kaitlin and I are very excited to finally roll out the new and improved 4-H News Flash. We hope you are able to navigate the page with ease.

This e-version is now replaces the PDF version you have been used to.  By being online,  our 4-H news is immediately available to you! This will be helpful on getting a heads up on date-sensitive events and deadlines. No long upload times-and you can easily print the 4-H posts that interest you the most. However, unlike the PDF version which was published after all the news is reported and collected, the e-version is a fluid, live version which publishes the stories as they come into the 4-H office. So, please check back often to read the updates!

Look to the left and right sidebars for the latest posts, breaking news or announcements!

Another advantage to the newsletter blog are the active hyperlinks to forms and pictures!

And guess what? Now you can share a particular blog post or article on the social network of your choice! 4-H members, leaders and parents can now help the 4-H office promote our individual and group 4-H accomplishments! So, if you are connected on Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, or any other social network platform, please feel free to share a The News Flash post, article or photo. This is a terrific opportunity to let others outside our 4-H community see the great things we do and also recruit new families to join 4-H!

Assisting you with reading this newsletter are general categories shown on the right sidebar. Use the drop down to narrow your search. Underneath these are newsletter topics or “tags” which will help readers find more specific searches. At the end of every month, all posts published will be archived under that same month. Please use the search bar to search for something very specific, like a member name, club name or specific project area.

Best of all is the Search box! As we grow content, try searching for your name and see all the events you have participated in. Type in any keyword, and any article that mentions that name or keyword will appear! It is so easy to find anything!

Thank you for reading The News Flash and for your interest and participation in New Castle County 4-H Youth Development program!

Yours in 4-H,
