Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

The 2018-19 4-H year is off to a great start. Many opportunities for fun and learning are planned.

Congratulations to our newly elected Jr. Council officers: President: Hunter Willoughby VP: Cole Simpson Sec. Matthew Trunfio Treas. Tyler Melson.

Congratulations and thank you to Maureen Ernst, 4-H Program Assistant and Stephanie Tang, 4-H volunteer for recently completing Shooting Sports Archery Instructor training.

October 7-13 marks National 4-H Week! It is a great chance to promote 4-H to family and friends. In honor of 4-H Week, the New Castle County Links are sponsoring a Bowling Night on October 12 for 4-Hers and families. See blog post and plan to attend!

4-H National Youth Science Day is the world’s largest youth led science experiment. This year’s challenge is “Code Your World”. This activity helps kids discover computer science through hands on doing. 4-H Afterschool clubs will be participating on October 25 and all 4-Hers are invited to participate at Shue-Medill Middle School from 6-8 pm. Adult helpers are needed. RSVP to 4-H office.

The annual fall Paper Clover campaign kicks off this month. From October 3-14, please encourage family and friends to go to Tractor Supply and support 4-H.  Proceeds from this fundraiser go directly to Delaware 4-H.

The next 4-H Leader Training will be held on October 20 at the Paradee Center in Dover. New 4-H volunteers as well as current leaders will benefit from this training. See the blog post for more info.

We are now into the 2018-19 4-H year. Please be sure you are enrolled as a member in 4-H Online. All members need to register before participating in 4-H events.  You can re-enroll by visiting www.4honline.com . It will only take seconds if you don’t have any updates to personal information- we promise! If you cannot remember which email you use to log in, please DO NOT create a new profile! Call the office at 302-831-8965 or email Serena at serenac@udel.edu and she will be happy to let you know.

All 4-Hers should plan to attend the November 4th Achievement Event.  The event will be held at the Cooperative Extension office in Newark from 2-4 pm. The theme is “4-H-The Greatest Show on Earth”. We will present awards, honors and recognition in celebration of the 2017-2018 4-H year. There will be games, silent auction, door prizes and refreshments.  Please RSVP by Friday, October 26 at https://goo.gl/forms/PZVK0KuGX5R9m9i12  or by calling the office at 302-831-8965.

Finally, it’s not too early to start thinking about the Public Speaking Contest on Nov. 28. Cloverbuds can even participate by reciting a poem or pledge.

Now is the time to plan your 4-H year.  Plan to participate in new events, make new friends, volunteer, plan community service activities and tell others the 4-H story. 4-H has something for everyone!

Yours in 4-H,

Betsy, Kaitlin and Serena
