RSO Travel: Emergency Notification Protocol

 

Emergency Level 1:

  • Death of a student
  • Suicide or act considered life-threatening (admitted to intensive care or similar level)
  • Transport for alcohol or drug issue considered life-threatening (admitted to intensive care)
  • Transport for any life-threatening injury or health concern (admitted to intensive care)
  • Fire, flood or other disaster that may result in injuries or students being displaced
  • Vehicular accident with major injuries (transported to hospital)
  • Positive COVID-19 test result with symptoms

Information needed on all contacts

  1. Student name and date of birth
  2. Campus/local address
  3. Current status of student’s well being
  4. Any other relevant information available (student cell phone number, contact made with parent/guardian, contact made with other UD Student Life staff, etc.)

At the first possible opportunity after contacting needed emergency support, call Assistant Vice President, Student Wellbeing, Support and Advocacy, Adam Cantley at 302-304-2821. (If no answer, call University of Delaware Police Department at 302-831-2222 and please ask them to inform the senior staff on call for Student Life.) After calling Dean of Students and/or UDPD, please call Alex Keen, Associate Director, RSOs at 302-831-3470 (work) and 302-733-0773 (cell).

 

Emergency Level 2:

  • Student medical (including alcohol) transports
  • Victims of low-level assault or harassment
  • Non-crises student health and welfare concerns
  • Minor vehicular accidents (no transportation to hospital)
  • Work-site injuries that require medical attention, but not hospitalization
  • COVID-19 symptoms, no test result yet

At the first possible opportunity, call Alex Keen, Associate Director, RSOs at 302-831-3470 (work) and 302-733-0773 (cell). After that immediate notification, contact the appropriate office:

If Alex Keen or an appropriate office contact is not able to be reached, call Assistant Vice President, Student Wellbeing, Support and Advocacy, Adam Cantley at 302-304-2821.

 

Non-Emergency Notifications:

  • Problems with community partners
  • Group/facilitation difficulties
  • Disharmony among group members
  • Work-site injuries that do not require immediate medical attention
  • Other – non emergencies

UD Motor Pool Policies

In the event of an accident:

  • The police must be contacted for all accidents. Even minor “fender bender” accidents. The final responsibility for a reported accident will be determined by the police report.
  • If an accident occurs on campus, notify UDPD at 302-831-2222 at once. A full report of all accidents must be submitted to the UD Motor Pool office within 24 hours of return of the vehicle.
  • If personal injury is involved or the UD Motor Pool vehicle cannot be driven away from the accident, notify the UD Motor Pool office immediately at 302-831-8471. If after office hours, notify UDPD at 302-831-2222 giving your location and a telephone number you can be reached. Additionally, notify the relevant offices listed in the protocol above.
  • Do not discuss the accident or sign any reports or statements.
  • Never admit responsibility to the other party. Insurance information is available in the glovebox of all UD Motor Pool vehicles, along with other important information in the event of an accident.
