Honors Program becomes the UD Honors College

A Message from Michael Chajes, Honors Director:

Michael Chajes, DirectorAs I sit here working out of my home office, I am overjoyed to tell you that as of today, July 1, 2020, the UD Honors Program is now the UD Honors College!!!

Becoming a College will enable Honors to do even more great things for our students and faculty, and also for the institution and the local community. We have long been recognized as providing outstanding undergraduate education for academically driven students. We are very thankful for this opportunity as the creation of the Honors College positions us to expand our impact on our amazing students even further.

The change reflects the tremendous success and expansion of the UD Honors Program since it originated in 1976 as a program to enable high school seniors to complete their high school degree and simultaneously start college. Since its inception, Honors students, who total nearly 2,000 today, have been leaders on campus and have garnered numerous prestigious local and national scholarships and awards. During its rich 44-year history, we have evolved into one of the nation’s top destinations for Honors students, and the granting of College status reflects the institution’s commitment to making Honors at UD even better.

The vision of the Honors College going forward is to be a prime destination for talented students and will provide those students with a vibrant, supportive, and encouraging community in which to challenge themselves and develop into global leaders. Through collaborations with talented teachers, insightful mentors, and each other, Honors students will become well-rounded and resilient scholars who are curious, courageous, critical thinkers. Our graduates will adapt to and thrive in quickly changing landscapes, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and eagerly solve society’s most pressing needs.

I look forward to meeting you at one of our future events, and to hearing about what UD Honors has meant to you and your family.
