Political science is concerned with the origin, development, and operation of political systems. Courses offered by this department cover topics such as public opinion, political ideology and social conflicts, and the election process. The department offers both a minor and major in this field of study. Students interested in learning more about government are encouraged to take POSC150: American Politics and POSC240: Global Politics.

Some of the entry level positions available to people with degrees in political science include: lobbyist, campaign operative, and legislative assistant. A legislative aide, for example, collects and analyzes data to help elected officials understand the implications of proposed legislation for their constituents. Individuals who are highly social and enterprising tend to be a good fit for this type of work.
