Are you a student who has strong mathematics skills and is looking for a lucrative field with high job satisfaction and job security? Then, look no further than Actuarial Science! Many have not even heard of the field or know that it is a major at UD, but it’s growing in popularity.
An actuary manages uncertainty and risk in a company. Then, they help the companies they work for develop policies and plans to minimize the cost of risk. Actuaries utilize skills in math, statistics, and finance, and they don’t just help insurance companies anymore. Actuaries can be found across many industries!
The Actuarial Science major at the University of Delaware is housed in the Mathematics department, in the College of Arts and Sciences. The major has a rigorous curriculum that prepares graduates to sit for at least the first two exams that future actuaries need to take. Also, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, students can be ready to enter other mathematically-based careers as well. The Actuarial Science major provides an actuary-oriented student club, as well as other resources to assist their students with future growth.
