Minor Spotlight: Public Health

Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private sectors, communities, and individuals.

The minor in Public Health at UD provides an interdisciplinary opportunity to develop practical skills in program development and increase knowledge in the areas of social systems, policy, and leadership. This 18 credit minor is available to students in any discipline. Students complete three core introductory courses —  HLPR211: Public Health, HLPR222: Epidemiology, and HLPR233: Global Health — as well as three other upper level classes.

According to ExploreHealthCareers.com, public health professionals analyze and develop programs that protect the health of individuals, families and communities in the United States and abroad. Using education, development of healthy lifestyles, research and program implementation, public health professionals are agents for disease prevention and health promotion.
