Major Spotlight- English

Major Spotlight- English

Have you ever thought, “what can I do with an English major”? Well, the answer is: more than you think! At the University of Delaware, the English major allows you to follow a flexible pathway towards your career goals. Thinking about a career in business or health science? An English major might be a great way for you to pursue opportunities in these fields by entering an applied writing pathway, learning how to adapt and target your writing for different audiences and situations. Additional pathways you can study that can lead to careers in a wide range of professions include: Creative Writing, Social Justice, Screen Studies, Environmental Humanities, and Literary History and Culture. This is definitely not the English major of the past, as the department has taken great strides to bring the program into the 21st century and offer interesting and relatable coursework. Check out more about why an English major may be right for you as well as all of the courses (and their descriptions) being offered in Fall 2023. Minor Spotlight-Integrated Design

“The minor in Integrated Design provides students of all majors with an understanding of diverse perspectives, design process and production of designed objects and experiences”, according to Lerner Business and Economics (where the minor is housed). Students will learn about the integrated design process, not only through class but with hands-on experiences as well. The 18 credit minor is made up of core (one class), perspective (one class), process (one class), and production courses (three classes). The student selects from a listing of relevant courses in each category to make up the minor. The courses are in various disciplines including: Entrepreneurship, Engineering, Art, Anthropology, Music, Fashion, Computer Science, Communication, and many more. All students will complete a core design team project that demonstrates: Perspectives, Process, and Production.  The minor prepares students for a career in many different fields, some of which include: product development, architecture, finance, fashion, and engineering.
