IT-RCI Workshop Series October 7-23
UDIT Research CyberInfrastructure (IT-RCI) group will be offering the following workshops in October. Please make sure you register for all workshops as soon as possible. Although we offer all of our workshops free of charge, there is a cost to us for staff time, so please be respectful and attend if you register.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All registrations required being logged into Google and will close by noon the day before the workshop’s scheduled date or earlier if capacity of room is reached. Please pay attention to workshops noted as hands-on or lunch and learn which means you need to attend in-person and there is no remote option. Also please read all prerequisites for each workshop before registering. If you have any questions about any workshop or concerns about meeting the prerequisites, please email it-rci-info@udel.edu for help.
Introduction to Linux/Unix Hands-on Workshop (Part 1)
This hands-on workshop is an introduction to the Linux/Unix operating system covering basic concepts such as the CLI (command-line interface), navigating files and directories, input/output redirection and using a text editor presented in-person by the UDIT Research CyberInfrastructure group.

Introduction to Linux/Unix Hands-on Workshop (Part 2)
This hands-on workshop is an introduction to the Linux/Unix operating system covering more advanced concepts such as file permissions, data transfer, compress/decompress files, environment variables and shell scripts presented in-person by the UDIT Research CyberInfrastructure group.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Linux/Unix Registration (Part 1) or familiarity with CLI, navigating files and directories, input/output redirection and using a text editor.

Getting Started with DARWIN
This hands-on workshop is an introduction to using DARWIN covering the basics of dos and don’ts, connecting, workgroup, startup files, storage options, VALET, allocations, and running jobs presented by the UD IT-RCI group in-person . No remote option.
Prerequisites: An active DARWIN account, attendance of Introduction to HPC and Introduction to Linux/Unix Hands-on Workshop (Part 1 and 2) or have equivalent knowledge and skills.

Jupyter Notebooks on UD HPC clusters
This hands-on workshop will guide you through utilizing Jupyter Notebooks on the UD HPC clusters (DARWIN or Caviness). It will cover setting up a Jupyter notebook on the cluster via Slurm, creating Python virtual environments, and demonstrate basic Machine Learning examples leveraging GPU acceleration presented by the UD IT-RCI group in-person. No remote option.
Prerequisites: An active DARWIN or Caviness account, basic Linux/Unix skills or attended Introduction to Linux/Unix Hands-on Workshop (Part 1 and 2) or Getting Started with DARWIN Hands-On workshop.

Using Python Virtual Environments on DARWIN
This lunch and learn workshop is intended for existing DARWIN users to help them understand the basic concepts necessary to set up a workflow on DARWIN by creating a Python Virtualenv with a VALET package, and using the Python Virtualenv to train a model.
Prerequisites: An active account on DARWIN, basic Linux/Unix skills or attended Introduction to Linux/Unix Hands-on Workshop (Part 1 and 2) or Getting Started with DARWIN Hands-on Workshop.

ACCESS HPC Workshops: UD Satellite Site 2025
All workshops will presented hands-on using the Wide Area Classroom (WAC) training platform and will be held at the University of Delaware @ 11AM-5PM EST unless otherwise noted.
