Breathing Techniques From Our GEM Curriculum

Wood Chopper Breath πŸͺ“

Standing tall with your feet flat on the floor and positioned hip-distance apart, breathe
naturally and quietly. When breathing in, we are going to imagine that we are lifting the
axe over our head, before exhaling and imagining us swinging our arms down towards
our legs, as if we were chopping the wood.

INHALE through your nose, and clasp your hands together, slowly raising your arms up
over your head.
EXHALE and pull your hands down towards your legs as you say β€œHA” to chop the
wood.
Repeat 5x!

This breathing exercise helps get any tension out of our chests, arms, shoulders, and jaws.

PLOGGING

Want to help the environment while improving your physical wellness? Join Delaware 4-H and Consequence of Habit in plogging, an activity that combines jogging and picking up litter. Throughout the year, we are hosting multiple plogging campaigns, where you can pick up litter while jogging/walking in local neighborhoods and parks.

Join campaigns such as Plogging for Prevention (October and March), Plogging for the Earth (April), or Plogging for Physical Fitness (all year). When filling out this form, please indicate which campaign you are participating. However, feel free to sign up to plog anytime!  You can always plog for a purpose! Plog alone, with friends and family, or with your school or club.

Participants will receive gloves,  trash picker sticks, garbage bags, and safety tip sheet to use when plogging.

Monthly raffles are drawn for those who plog and sends the pounds of trash or number of bags collected, or a picture of your group plogging to  kjohn@udel.edu.  The more you plog the more chances you will have in the raffle.

Virtual

FREE Mental Health First Aid Training via Zoom

March 21, 20239 am- 3:30 pm

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
With the growing need for services and resources to help those living with mental health conditions, as well as substance use and addiction, everyone can play an important role in helping those in crisis.
You will also receive a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support.
The course will be offered in two parts. The first part is offered online in a self-study format, takes about 2 hours, and needs to be completed before the live session. The second part will be offered live via Zoom.
This session will be held March 21st from 9am-3:30pm. You will receive the link for the self-paced session and Zoom info for the live session after you have registered.
Registration closes on March 6, so please register early.
