Shyam Selvadurai
Shyam Selvadurai was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Funny Boy (1994) was his first novel and it won the Books in Canada First Novel Award and the Lambda Literary Award in the US. He is currently 53 and lives in Toronto, Canada with his partner Andrew Champion. His mother was a Sinhalese and his father was a Tamil– members of opposing groups whose hardships shape a major theme in Funny Boy. He received his Bachelor’s degree from York University and studied creative and professional writing.
