Goals achieved

Workshops will now be scheduled 4-5 sessions in advance, preferably during week 3 (1-2pm usually in 108).

Ross Fenske and Erin Bastein just presented on the CAP program, launching a new series for the PDTF workshops on “what teachers need to know”. The talk will be available online this weekend and will be password protected.

Additional “what teachers need to know” workshops for the next sessions include:

Ruwida has agreed to do a workshop on learning how to best serve the interests/needs of Muslim women students (Session 1).

Meghan Gladle is offered to do a workshop on the ELI Global Community (currently being scheduled).

Goals currently being implemented

We are planning a workshop on how to make the best use of the tutoring program in your classes and a workshop on the bridge program.

Some of the PDTF workshops will now be online only webinars and interviews. We are creating a “video library” of online resources for faculty on topics such as TESOL and technology assistance (e.g., SMART Board use). More specifically, we are planning the following webinars:

  • How to write a successful TESOL proposal
  • How to make the most use of TESOL (as a conference attendee)
  • What is the Electronic Village and what should I know about it?
  • What are the resources that faculty should know about at the SALC?
  • How can teachers make the most use of the language lab?

We would like to invite any faculty to share ideas on video library resources we could offer. We are also seeking volunteers who are willing to be interviewed or to do webinars. Priorities from previous surveys are how to use the SMART board and other technology-related “how tos”. Another topic of interest is “flipped classrooms.” If you are interested in helping us with this project, please write Carolina.

Longer-term goals

Development of tutoring-teacher web form whereby tutors and teachers could easily communicate with each other. The form, which would be updated based on tutoring schedule changes, could be connected to the student’s ID and teachers could more easily connect with tutors about their students.
