News and Agenda

  • Introduced Lynn Robinson, new assistant in the ELI Registrar’s Office
  • Announced that this is Jim Runner’s last session at the ELI
  • Announced that Laurie Fuhrmann is leaving the ELI on May 16
Faculty Vote on the following proposal Policy Regarding Research Requests:

“Whereas the ELI encourages research that will enhance our understanding and pedagogy of second language acquisition and whereas we equally recognize our duty to protect our students from being overwhelmed by requests for participation and from research that might be of dubious value to them as learners, be it therefore resolved that any proposed study involving ELI students must first be approved by the full time ELI faculty, whether or not such study is conducted at the ELI and that the approval process follow the guidelines outlined in the November 20, 2013 document entitled, “Policy Statement on Conducting Research at the ELI.”

Faculty approved the measure in the meeting, April 28, 2014.
This policy should also be posted to the main ELI website.

  • Transformation Grants proposal submitted by Nigel Caplan, Ken Cranker, and Scott Duarte has made it to the final round.
Announcement – Electronic Vote Proposals Passed

The revisions to the speaking/pronunciation curriculum proposed by the Curriculum Committee have been approved by the faculty (16 in favor, 0 opposed, 1 abstention) and will be implemented next session (V14).

The new Speaking curriculum documents will be updated on the Facbook soon.
