Final Report on Goals for 2012-2013
Investigate the future role and structure of the Textbook Committee (i.e., should it continue to stand alone or be subsumed under the Curriculum Committee).
After much discussion, it was decided that the textbook committee will remain separate from the curriculum committee, but will collaborate with the curriculum committee at times.
Continue to review all current textbooks with an eye for replacing out of date texts, and adjust alternating book schedule as needed.
The textbook committee has decided to make this a more formal process than it has been previously. We will review textbooks in conjunction with the curriculum review. Once the curriculum committee has made its final recommendations for a particular skill area, we will then review all textbooks currently being used for instruction of that skill area. The textbook committee is currently finalizing the procedure and forms that will be used for this new ongoing textbook review process.
Review the distribution, oversight, tracking, re-collecting, and storing of textbooks and ancillary materials. Submit a specific plan for how this should be handled in the future.
This goal refers to textbooks and ancillaries that get distributed to teachers at the beginning of each session. The committee agreed that course mentors/coordinators who wish to keep materials in their own offices may still continue to do so. For those who would like assistance in collecting, storing, tracking, and distributing materials, a set of lockable drawers in the 108 teachers’ lounge is now available for use. The committee has established a procedure for collecting, inventorying, and distributing those materials. Teachers should contact Mikie Sarmiento before beginning to use the drawers in 108 for storage.
Pilot the book Q3: Skills for Success in Level III R/W.
R/W III piloted Q3 for several sessions. The book was approved for adoption.
Find another suitable text to alternate with Q in Level III R/W.
R/W 3 teachers chose Real Reading 2 as the alternate text. The book was piloted for several sessions and was approved for adoption.
Pilot the book Decisionmaker–14 business situations for analysis and discussion (David Evans) in AOB.
A new request was made to pilot Decisionmaker in Oral Business IV rather than AOB. Piloting of the text in OB IV began in session 3.
Pilot Q5 reading text for possible use at Level V in General R/W.
The pilot is in progress. Teachers should complete textbook evaluations by the middle of session 4 so that a final decision on adoption can be made by the committee before the end of session 4.
Consider requiring Azar On-line Interactive at R/W Levels III and II, as
it currently is required at IV and V.
This is no longer an option for level II now that the grammar book has changed. The committee is waiting to hear a decision from R/W III teachers.
