Feature articles:
UI updates plus new features and tools
Over the summer, several updates were made to Canvas@UD including interface changes and new features and tools.
Learn more about these updates and how to prepare your fall Canvas courses.
What’s New:
- The Gradescope Canvas integration pilot has been extended through spring 2025! The initial pilot data was encouraging, but the extension will provide the pilot with the additional time needed to effectively evaluate the tool’s benefits. Learn more about the pilot to see if Gradescope can improve your grading process. Thanks to all faculty who have already supported the pilot and offered feedback.
- Canvas feature options are now enabled by default starting fall 2024. Most course feature options are configured as an opt-in setting, but a few options have indicated consistent use and were enabled for instructor convenience.
- The Cidi Labs DesignPLUS sidebar for Canvas content development has been upgraded to a more intuitive and user-friendly interface with improved visual organization, clear iconography, and descriptive labels. If you are a current sidebar user and would like to upgrade, or you are considering using the sidebar for content design, please visit the updated DesignPLUS for Canvas web page.
- Respondus 4.0 is no longer available for download and licenses for current installations expired on July 31, 2024. However, the tool will continue to be available for instructor use in Pearson 116. Visit the IT-ATS website to make an appointment.
Did you know:
- Fall 2024 Canvas course sites were created on July 30. Review Canvas Course Information for a New Term for information about how to check for your courses, make change requests, and prepare to teach this fall. For more information about automatic course creation, please review the Canvas@UD blog post, Canvas Course Creation.
- Canvas course build-up is a problem. Copying entire courses each term can lead to outdated content in your course that can distract or confuse your students. Here’s a few steps to tidy up and organize your courses.
- Reminder! Fall 2018 through summer 2019 Canvas course sites will conclude the week of August 19 as part of the course data retention process. You will not be able to access these sites after they are concluded to obtain course content, student submissions, or grading information. Review the steps to prepare for the conclusion of these course sites.
- New Quizzes users: The original Quiz and Item Analysis Report available for quizzes created and taken before the end of 2023 will be removed at the end of summer 2024. All 2024 or newer quizzes will use only the improved Quiz and Item Analysis Report which can be generated at your request.
- The deadline to request UD Capture Classroom recording for your fall courses is Thursday, August 22. Submit your request by August 22 to ensure your first sessions are recorded. Requests made after the deadline may be delayed. If you schedule UD Capture, please review the room list and important usage information before your first class.
