As announced in the August Canvas newsletter, iClicker is upgrading iClicker Classic customers to the iClicker Cloud software as the only supported Canvas integration starting January 2024.  If you are using iClickers and have a registered instructor remote, you have received emails announcing this update.  To learn more, register for a vendor-led training session on January 24 during Keep Calm Teach On Winter 2024 or review the iClicker guide, Making the Transition from iClicker Classic to iClicker Cloud: A Quick Reference Guide.

If you missed the vendor training session In January, you can view the recording on the KCTO website, Making the Transition to iClicker Cloud.

What will change?  Only the software for iClicker is changing.  The physical bases in the classrooms and the instructor/student remotes will still work.  The new Canvas tool integration is very similar to the current integration.  A major difference is how your class activity is stored.  Your session data and gradebook will now be stored in the cloud environment instead of on your local device.  To launch a session and store data, you must be connected to the internet while collecting responses.  With this change, iClicker Cloud provides software with higher security, better experiences for both students and instructors, and easier support.

Another difference is your students now have the option to use their mobile devices instead of iClicker remotes if you allow them.  You can configure your class settings to allow iClicker remotes only, mobile devices only, or both.  If students are using iClicker remotes only, they will not need to purchase a subscription.  No subscription is required for students unless they want to use mobile app with their mobile device.  New iClicker remotes purchased by students come with a five-year subscription to use the mobile app, but students can still use previously-owned remotes without a subscription purchase.

Finally, with iClicker Cloud students can review the questions you ask in class, and with the app, use them to create study tools such as flash cards and practice quizzes.

How will it work for instructors?  As an instructor, you will need to create an iClicker Cloud account.  Visit the iClicker Cloud instructor portal, search for and select “University of Delaware”, and complete the remaining registration fields.   Create your course and define its settings just as you would with iClicker Classic, then synchronize your roster.  Download the iClicker Cloud app to your device.  In class, launch the app as you normally would to start a session.  For more information, please visit the iClicker Instructor/Student Canvas integration website and these resources:

How will it work for students?  Ask your students to create an iClicker Cloud account so that you can synchronize your roster in your iClicker Cloud course.  Students should visit the iClicker Cloud student portal, click the Sign Up! button to create an account, and register their remote.  Make sure your students use their UDEL credentials, email address and UDID, to ensure correct synchronization with your Canvas course.    Please note:  UDIT is processing the Single Sign-On capability for easier for student account configuration and access.  Watch for updates about its availability.  For more information, please visit the iClicker Instructor/Student Canvas integration website and these resources:

What happens if you do nothing with your current iClicker software installation?  if you continue to use the UD-customized iClicker Classic software that is integrated with Canvas past December, it will break.  For those committed to using iClicker Classic locally, there will be a final simplified version released at the end of the year.  Please reach out to udpolling@udel.edu if you would like a copy of the final version. Please note: This version will not offer LMS integration, and will not be supported by the iClicker customer support team.

For more information about this upgrade, please review the iClicker website,  iClicker Classic is moving to iClicker Cloud January 2024.
