4-H Virtual Exhibit Showcase at the Delaware State Fair

As communicated in our letter emailed to all 4-H families on July 1, 2020, due to the current in-person restriction for 4-H programming that is in place through July 31st, we will not be able to have actual 4-H exhibits brought to the 4-H building this year to be judged and on display.  This decision was made out of an abundance of care and with the priority of protecting the health and safety of the participants, families, volunteers and staff.

As we also shared in our correspondence, the Delaware State Fair has a virtual exhibit software that will allow us to have our youth continue to be able to share and exhibit their 4-H project work, and have the ability to participate in the exhibit premium system.  Even though it will be different for us to do, we are very fortunate to have the ability and opportunity to use this system for our youth.

We have attached guidelines on how our 4-H members can upload and present their exhibits through their Delaware State Fair exhibit account.  It is a very user friendly system and one that I feel all families will be able to use to share their exhibit information.  Staff at the Delaware State Fair as well as with the Delaware 4-H Program are prepared to assist with this process as help is needed.  Please review these guidelines in order to begin to prepare information to be able to provide it in the virtual exhibit showcase.

Suggested File System to use in Saving Exhibit Photographs to use to Upload

We encourage you to use the exhibit class number as your file name when saving photos to upload in the DSF virtual system.

For example, if you are exhibiting in Class 98, take a photograph(s) of your exhibit, and save as follows:

C98 P1 (Class 98  Picture 1)

C98 P2 (Class 98  Picture 2)

C98 P3 (Class 98  Picture 3)

Photography Tips to Remember / Use in Taking Photographs of Exhibits

Consider the following photography tips to use when taking photographs of your exhibits:

  • Be sure to focus in on your exhibit
  • Be sure to have the proper lighting so your pictures are not dark
  • Remember these types of composition to use: Rule of Thirds, Lighting, Simplicity and Balance
  • Photos can be edited to crop out unnecessary items in the photo.
  • More information about composition and editing photographs can be found in the 4-H Photography Judging Guide:

MAIN GUIDELINES ON HOW TO PRESENT YOUR EXHIBIT ON YOUR

DELAWARE STATE FAIR EXHIBIT ACCOUNT

Please take time to determine how you can best present your exhibit to the judge.  You
will have the ability to upload and share UP TO 3 PHOTOGRAPHS.

If exhibit has different sides or angles to see or to assist you in showing any special detail or
techniques used, you should upload and share 3 PHOTOGRAPHS.
Our guidelines shared below for our various classes do offer guidance in many areas as to

ways, this guidance can change based on what you are actually exhibiting in a class.
For any exhibit that is operational, you will need to upload UP TO 1 VIDEO to show this operation.

in the Virtual Exhibit Showcase.    You can use them as a guide to help organize your exhibits.
