Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

Congratulations are in order!

~Hunter Willoughby, Summit Bridge 4-H Club member, Jr. Council President and State Teen Council Officer was selected to be a member of the National 4-H Congress Design Team. He recently returned from the first team meeting and is excited to be a part of planning the 2019 National 4-H Congress to be held Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Atlanta.

~Congrats to the participants in the Jan. 26 – Favorite Foods and Foods Judging Contest. A large number of youth and adults gathered at Kirk Middle School with a great showing of creative place settings and delicious recipes. Foods and Nutrition Judging as well as a Photography Contest Display were also held. See results in posting.

Winter Workshops on Food Science, Robotics, Livestock Judging, Sewing and Glass Art will be held on Feb. 16 and 23. Enroll now to guarantee a spot.

The first demonstration contest is March 21. A successful 4-H demonstration does not have to be complicated; instead, it can be a lot of fun! Demonstrations are a great opportunity to show your 4-H knowledge and skills to others. 4-Her’s can compete as an individual or work with another 4-Her for a team demonstration. NEW OPPORTUNITIES

 Are you interested in learning more about any of the below? – Contact the office now to let us know!

~We have a volunteer willing to do “Let’s Go Fishin!!!” workshops. These would be for youth 8 and up. The purpose would be to help youth develop the enjoyment and potential lifetime hobby of fishing.

~NJHA stands for National Jr. Horticulture Association. This organization promotes the knowledge of horticulture and seeks to develop horticulture leaders. It offers the opportunity to attend the 2019 convention which takes place October 11-14 in Lincoln, Nebraska. See njha.org for additional info.

~Rabbit Showmanship Workshop. We have a volunteer interested in teaching a Sat. morning workshop in Kent County. Let us know if you would attend!

~New Castle County would like to enter a Consumer Bowl team in the State Contest on Sunday, July 21 at the Delaware State Fair. We need 2-4 team members with an interest in financial literacy and consumer best practices.

~ We need a few more counselors for Newark 4-H Day Camp -June 24-28 at Townsend Hall on the College of Ag and Natural Resources Campus. Must be a 4-Her, age 13 and up.  We are also hiring two Asst. Day Camp Directors. Must be 18 and up. Contact Betsy @ betsym@udel.edu for more info.

The Sheep Club is in need of a new location to raise market sheep this year. Please contact Liz Piazza or the office if you have an idea.
