Nkagula Drill Site

Aug 17, 2023 | Malawi

Today we woke up bright and early for a 7am start time at the Nkagula drill site. Kapitapa pulled out the 50m of drill rods and replaced them with casing.

We determined the placement of the slotted versus plain casing depending on where the aquifers were down the well, with the assistance of Kapitapa.

After all of the casing was in place, the gravel pack was installed. The gravel pack starts at the bottom of the borehole well and continues up to 12m bgs (below ground surface). It helps to filter out sentiments as the water seeps into the slotted casing. The last 12m will be a cement grout seal that provides sanitary protection.

We flew the drone to take aerial shots of the drill rig. The children were very interested in watching us navigate it.

After wrapping up in Nkagula, we headed over to Liti to complete a second round of resistivity testing. We were able to identify another promising site, a few hundred feet away from the original.
