Khanda Health Clinic and Water Testing

Aug 12, 2023 | Malawi

Today, we started our day visiting the new Khanda Health Clinic that VIP recently opened. The facility services over 8000 people and when fully staffed, will employ 69 people. There was a different room for each department including maternity, dentistry, ophthalmology, and emergency care. Doctors, nurses, dentists, and other volunteers currently help to facilitate the clinic and the maternity ward will be opening in the near future.

The above photo is of the postnatal ward for patients to stay after giving birth.

In the center of the clinic is an open flower garden with solar panels on the roof. This facility is fully run by solar power generated from these panels and the system shown below.

After this, we made our way to the VIP satellite office for lunch, then headed out to visit our partner communities with previously drilled wells, Chillimani and Nphero. We held a meeting with each community discussing the value of our continued partnership and the results of water testing completed the previous year. We also completed a simple test strip of each well in the communities to confirm the water was still within safe levels.

Above is Charlotte performing a water test with a test strip on a well in Chillimani. An example of test strip results can be seen below.

After a long day in the field, the team headed back to Namang’azi Farm to eat dinner and get some rest for the next day!
