In February Poll Everywhere added a new feature to UD’s enterprise account that permits taking attendance based on geolocation data of students. UDIT was not afforded the opportunity to review or vet this feature before Poll Everywhere enabled it as a no-cost addition to UD’s license.
The Attendance Management feature requires students to run an app specific to attendance, and turn on GPS location tracking for the application. Requiring students to take these actions eliminates their choice and control over both their devices and their geolocation data, including the ability to review it and the opportunity to correct, supplement, or delete it. Eliminating this choice and control is contrary to the University’s privacy policy.
UD has requested that Poll Everywhere disable the Attendance Management feature. Until this occurs, students should not be asked or required to engage with the attendance feature.
