The new Canvas Portfolio tool will replace the existing native account-level ePortfolio tool to deliver a significant upgrade to the interface and capabilities.  EPortfolios are an effective tool for insight into a student’s learning and progress, and can create an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning, connect ideas, and communicate their work to an audience.  There are many platforms to choose from when using ePortfolios, each with its own features and benefits, but this new Canvas tool provides a platform more tightly integrated with Canvas@UD.

The existing native account-level ePortfolio tool will remain available to use in Canvas through its planned sunset date of June 30, 2026.  The new tool appears to have a much more intuitive design and flexible toolset which, we hope, will be more useful to our faculty and students.  Expect availability updates in Spring 2026.

The new Canvas Portfolio tool promises several capabilities including:

  • Two types of portfolios: Showcase Portfolios and Evaluation Portfolios
  • Integration directly with familiar grading tools like SpeedGrader
  • Skill tagging evidence to align learning with outcomes
  • Learner progress tracking for assigned portfolios
  • Collaboration tools that let learners add teammates to showcase group work
