A Canvas production update will occur on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Check out the full release notes.  Production updates occur on third Saturday of each month, and the next planned update is Saturday, November 15, 2025.  No interface changes were scheduled for this production update, but there have been updates through deploys since the last production update:

YouTube Content Overlay (September 24 deploy)
Instructure is changing how Canvas interacts with YouTube content.  Any existing or newly added YouTube videos embedded in Canvas content using the integrated external tool in the RCE may begin displaying advertisements.  These ads are controlled by YouTube and cannot be disabled within Canvas.  YouTube videos  will display automatic message overlay to alert viewers of potential ads to determine if the viewer wants to proceed with viewing the content.

To provide an ad-free viewing experience for students, consider adding YouTube videos to your My Media and embed those videos in your Canvas content.

Gradebook View Hidden Grades Indicator (September 24 deploy)
A new gradesbook setting, View hidden grades indicator, is available to opt to display a hidden grade indicator to instructors whenever grades are hidden.   Enabling this option will display in the gradebook which up until now was only visible when posting grades.

SpeedGrader Multi-Select Section Filter with Checkboxes (September 24 deploy)
In multi-section sites, checkboxes have been added to the SpeedGrader section selector, allowing instructors to filter submissions by multiple sections at once.

Enhanced Rubrics Feature Preview Updates (September 24 deploy)
The following changes have been implemented in Enhanced Rubrics feature preview:

  • Clickable Outcomes Pill:  In both the rubric builder and rubric assessment views, instructors can select an outcome pill to open its details in an overlay to quickly review without leaving the rubric.
  • Assignment and Rubric Points Mismatch Alert:  When editing assignments, instructors are alerted if the total rubric points do not match the assignment points in the same way as legacy rubrics.
  • Rubric Layout Persists:  In SpeedGrader, the selected rubric view persists when moving between student submissions so the instructor does not need to  reselect it for each student. The layout preference resets only when the SpeedGrader page session ends.
  • Rubric Incomplete Indicator:  In SpeedGrader, rubrics display a visual Incomplete indicator when one or more criteria have not been scored which will not be removed until all criteria are scored.
  • Rubric Point Values:  When creating rubrics, instructors have an option to display the actual point value for each rating, instead of or alongside the default numeric labels (1–4). This update applies to both horizontal and vertical rubric views in SpeedGrader.
