Canvas is continually creating new features to improve your experience.  Generally, the majority of improvements will be made available as part of the regular release cycle, but feature options may be offered on an opt-in basis because Canvas is still working on improving their functionality or their use may change your workflow for common activities.  Opt-in feature options may be available for instructors to set in an individual course or for administrators to set for all users/courses.

Features options available to enable in your course can be found in Settings under the Feature Options tab.

The following course options have indicated consistent use and have enabled by default for instructor convenience as of July 29, 2024.

Quiz Log Auditing:  This course feature enables the tracking of events for a Classic Quizzes quiz submission, and the ability to view a log of those events once a submission is made.  See the Canvas guide, How do I view a quiz log for a student?

Final Grade Override:  This feature allows instructors to manually enter a final grade for a student in the Gradebook different from the grade automatically calculated by Canvas.  See the Canvas guide, How do I override a student’s final grade in the Gradebook?  Please note, enabling this feature option only makes it available to select in the gradebook settings interface.  You must still enable the feature in your course  gradebook settings.

For those using New Quizzes, we need your help!  The recent Canvas updates have added the ability to export and import New Quizzes as part of a Canvas cartridge file.  In order to support this capability, the “New Quizzes migration during course import/copy” account feature option must be enabled.  That change will display the Import existing quizzes as New Quizzes checkbox in the Import Course Content tool in all courses.

Enabling the feature option will allow you to import cartridge files that include New Quizzes as New Quizzes instead of Classic Quizzes.  Do you need this feature?  If so, please send an e-mail to canvas-info@udel.edu to let us know.   Canvas@UD administrators would prefer to keep this option hidden until later in the transition process.  Thanks in advance for your help!

If you have any questions about the changes or about how to use Canvas effectively, IT-Academic Technology Services staff is always available at the IT-ATS Welcome Bar or you can send your questions to canvas-info@udel.edu.
