A Canvas production update will occur on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Check out the full release notes. Production updates occur on third Saturday of each month, and the next planned update is Saturday, March 16, 2024. Updates in the current release include:
New Quizzes Updates
Several new features have been implemented in this release:
- Practice Quizzes Not Displayed in Gradebook Until now, New Quizzes practice quizzes (zero-point assignment) were still displayed in the gradebook and migrated Classic Quizzes practice quizzes were migrated with a point value included in the gradebook. An option in New Quizzes is now available to prevent the grade from displaying in the gradebook. This option can be enabled on New Quizzes you create and will be enabled by default on migrated Classic Quizzes practice quizzes. During migration, the assignment will be set to a zero-point assignment value with the new option “Do not display in gradebook or the student’s grade page” enabled by default. For more information about migrating Classic Quizzes, please see the Canvas guide, How do I migrate a Canvas quiz to New Quizzes?
Please note, the New Quizzes practice quiz with this option set is still displayed in the Assignments tool list unlike Classic Quizzes which did not. You may consider naming your New Quizzes practice quizzes to indicate the quiz is a practice quiz to avoid student confusion.
- Quiz and Item Analysis CSV download: In New Quizzes, a csv file of the Quiz and Item Analysis report can now be downloaded. The downloaded csv file includes all metrics summary tables available in a report generated and displayed in the user Interface. This new download feature is similar to the Classic Quizzes Statistics analysis reports. This feature is accessed in the Reports tab of a New Quizzes quiz.
The “Export CSV” feature is available on both the Reports tab and within the Quiz and Item Analysis view.
- Answer Frequency Summary for Additional Question Types: In the Item Analysis Report, an answer frequency summary table now displays the total number of correct responses, incorrect responses, and no responses for the additional question types:
- Multiple Choice
- Multiple Answer
- True or False
New Analytics – Updated Interface and Removal of Date/Time Stamp (February 14 deploy)
The New Analytics interface has been updated slightly – the page title changed, a course status tag and Settings menu link was added, and the Average Course Grade data was reduced in size and moved. More importantly, the “As of” time and date stamp is removed to eliminate inaccuracies in the time and date stamp. Please note, data is still only refreshed every 24 hours, so that displayed data is delayed. You will no longer know the last update event, so please assume that is 24 hours old. For more information, please see the Canvas guide, What is New Analytics?
Modules – Unpublish Module Only (January 31 deploy)
The recently released publish Module drop-down menu now includes the option to unpublish a module only. Individual module drop-down menus also include this new option. Use this option to unpublish module(s) while leaving items within the module(s) still published.
