A Canvas production update will occur on Saturday, April 15, 2023.  Check out the full release notes.  Production updates occur on third Saturday of each month, and the next planned update is Saturday, May 20, 2023.  Updates in the current release include:

New Quizzes – Grade by Question in SpeedGrader
If you have enabled New Quizzes, SpeedGrader now supports the grading one question at a time functionality available in Classic Quizzes.  Grading one question at a time allows you to grade the same quiz question for each student and focuses on that question as you move through the student list.  Its use can prevent unnecessary scrolling while grading to improve grading efficiency.  Enable the option in the same manner as Classic Quizzes using the Setting icon (the gear) in SpeedGrader.

When in Grade by Question mode, the Update score button is moved below the focused question, a blue bar appears to the left of the question indicating it is a focused question, and next and previous links are provided to navigate between students.  You must use the Update function to save scoring changes and should do so before moving to the next student.  The bar across the top indicating the mode is active can be dismissed by clicking the “x”.  Use the question navigator bar to the left to change questions.

For more information, please see the New Quizzes Grade by Question in SpeedGrader release video or the Canvas community blog post, Grade By Question in SpeedGrader for New Quizzes.

New Quizzes – Share Item Bank to Current Course Checkbox
When creating a new item bank in New Quizzes, instructors can now check an option box to share the bank with the current course.  This change removes the need to share after the bank is created, saving steps and improving workflow.

For more information about sharing New Quizzes item banks, please see the Canvas guide, How do I share an item bank in New Quizzes?

Gradebook – Sort Assignments by Excused Submissions and Unposted Grades (April 12 deploy)
Two new gradebook sorting options are available for assignments.  Sorting groups assignments that meet the condition at the top of the Grades display.

For more information about gradebook sorting option, please see the Canvas guide, How do I sort an individual assignment column in the Gradebook?
