Gearing Up for the Semester!

One day there was a thought: what if the gears in the ASME UD logo moved?

We took this idea and ran with it, knowing that the Spencer Design Studio had everything we needed. Our working logo was made over winter break; first designed and iterated upon in SolidWorks, then brought to life using the laser cutter and 3D printer in the FAB Lab. The larger gears and ASME text were 3D printed out of ABS material. The other parts were laser cut out of acrylic and fashioned together with force fits and a little bit of glue. All the electronics were found on hand in the design studio, and soldered together in practically no time at all! The most challenging part was to get the tolerances right on the driving gear, as the laser cutter melted away differing amounts of material each time. We hope you enjoy this creation!
