NIRCA XC Nationals 2017

The cross country team closed out the 2017 season at NIRCA Nationals in East Lansing, MI this past weekend! Official results are here.

The meet held six different races–men and women both ran in the championship race, the upperclassman race, and the underclassmen race. UD was represented in each one, except the men’s upperclassmen race. Despite below-freezing temperatures, the team put on a strong performance!

In the women’s championship race, the team placed 13th overall! Alana Waggoner was first on the team to cross the finish in 50th place, running a time of 24:21.3, and was followed by Abby Kaye, who ran 24:23.7 to finish 52nd. Elise Laframboise placed 95th in 25:05.3, and Emily Magoon finished 107th in 25:19.1. To round out the top 5, Kristen Arborio ran 25:39.4 to finish 126th. The women’s team scored 407 points to earn 13th.

On the men’s side, the team placed 30th. Chris Kitson led the team with a 60th place finish, completing the race in 26:39.6! Brandon Holveck was the team’s next runner, placing 162nd in 28:05.3. Nate Steinebrey then finished 220th in 29:56. Michael Rubin placed 234th in 31:50.0 and was followed by Evan Driscoll, who ran 32:07.0 to place 236th. The men totaled 893 points to finish 30th.

Another notable finish came from Emily Martin, who placed 13th in the women’s underclassmen race in a time of 25:27.7!

The cross country season is now over with the completion of Nationals, so the team will soon begin preparing for the track season. On the other hand, the sprint team is planning to be in attendance at the Bucknell Bison Opener, on December 2nd!
