Summer 2021 CENFOODS Research Project Funding Award

CENFOODS’ goals are to coordinate, integrate, and enhance UD’s research, teaching and outreach efforts on the sustainability of food production and surrounding ecosystems.

Generous donors have enabled opportunities to pursue sustainability-focused research at the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Newark farm, greenhouses, and botanic gardens during the summer of 2021. CENFOODS seeks University of Delaware postdocs, graduate students, and/or undergraduate students to apply for research project funding from $500 to $5000 that addresses CENFOODS’ goals. Funded awardees are required to showcase their research to the donors during the project period. (CENFOODS will work with awardees on showcase details.)
To apply for a research project funding award, please submit the following materials electronically as a single PDF to cenfoods@udel.edu by May 1, 2021:
1) Research project proposal narrative including project period timeline (5-page maximum, including references)
a. Proposal must clearly show a link to CENFOODS’ goals.
b. Work must be conducted during the summer of 2021 at UD’s Newark farm, greenhouses, and/or botanic gardens.
2) Research project budget and justification
a. Projects can range from $500 to $5000.
b. Funding is only for research costs, not stipends/wages, travel, or computers.
3) Unofficial UD transcript of student applicant, if applicable
4) CV of student and/or postdoc applicant
5) Letter of support (cover email accompanying the single PDF is sufficient) from a research mentor (be it a postdoc or supportive faculty member) that illustrates
a. the potential for the applicant to conduct the research and
b. the willingness to support the project effort through mentorship, lab facilities, etc.
Research project awards will be announced by May 15, 2021.
