Location: Near Dover, DE
Position: Internship, Level I: Bird Care & Trainer, 20 hrs/week.
Qualification: Junior or Senior College Student
ABCC has an internship available May 30 to August 30, 2019. The position may work up to four days per week. Five hours per day. Average 20 hours per week. The position is based out of our facility near Dover, DE and may be required to participate in offsite events, weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. Flexible schedule and ability to travel is preferred. The position requires hands-on animal care, husbandry, bird training, and public interaction.
The intern will possess a passion for working with birds and be motivated to learn. Education in animal behavior, wildlife education, biology, animal care or related experiences preferred. Preference given to junior or senior college students.
Responsibilities and qualities include:
-Honest, motivated, and reliable.
-Able and willing to take instructions and implement program as directed.
-Able to work independently or together in a team to achieve goals.
-Be comfortable working with birds.
-Be comfortable interacting with visitors.
-Be willing to learn handling and training of multiple bird species.
-Daily care, food prep, feeding, and cleaning of bird enclosures.
-Follow husbandry and training protocol as directed.
-Able to work indoors and outdoors.
-Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
-Be willing and able to travel to offsite programs.
-Have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
-Must be drug and drama free.
-Other duties as assigned.
ABCC is a private organization with a mission to provide connections between animals and people through education and interaction via natural behaviors.
