Calleva outdoor adventure camp, located in
Poolesville, Maryland, about 20 miles outside of DC, offers tons of
different week-long (Mon-Fri) camps for kids of all ages, including
horseback riding (HBR) programs! Calleva is currently looking for
instructors for those programs, which fall into two groups:
HBR Adventure Camp: In activity camp, an instructor will have a group
of the same 10 campers, age 8 to 15, all week. They are in charge of
teaching the campers how to properly handle, groom, tack, generally
take care of, and of course ride a horse (English riding lessons).
There are three levels (1, 2, 3) that campers can be placed into, based
mainly on their riding experience. We get everything from kids who have
never been on a horse before to kids who are experienced W/T/C/J.
Because of this, we are looking for people who would be capable of
instructing at more than one level. HBR Adventure Camp involves one
overnight where staff camp outside with their group.
Explorers HBR: An Explorers HBR instructor will be working with younger
campers, age 6-8. Instead of working with the same group all week, an
explorers instructor will be in charge of running an activity for
multiple groups. The activity usually centers around short rides for
each camper. An Explorers HBR instructor does not need to have as much
formal riding experience as an Adventure Camp Instructor, but previous
experience working with and leading horses is crucial.
For all positions, you must be available to work a minimum of 8 weeks
during the summer.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Tess De Smedt, the director of Calleva’s horseback riding program.
