kNOw MORE: Understand, discuss, prevent sexual harassment

Adam FoleyFor this episode of Campus Voices, Richard Gordon and Julia Giambastiani interviewed Adam Foley, Program Coordinator in the Office of Equity & Inclusion (OEI) at the University of Delaware. According to its website, the OEI is “responsible for Title IX, non-discrimination, affirmative action policies and compliance, University diversity initiatives, and on-going education to the campus community in all of these areas.” It also manages the kNOw MORE campaign and website.

UD’s kNOw MORE campaign reflects the efforts by faculty, staff, and students to stand up, participate, and help raise awareness about sexual misconduct and gender-based violence and harassment. The campaign’s goal is to create and foster an environment in which sexual misconduct in any form is unacceptable and victims are supported.

Adam discussed several of the tactics the campaign uses to reach students and employees. The campaign’s approach is to increase campus conversation about what constitutes sexual misconduct and about what constitutes healthy personal and professional relationships. Some of these efforts include signing a pledge, creating an active-bystander program, and providing resources for students in a centralized location.

Adam stressed that the kNOw MORE campaign is part of the University’s efforts to demonstrate how diversity and respect of all people — all genders, nationalities, religions, races, physical abilities, and economic backgrounds — will lead to “inclusive excellence.”
