On October 21st, the sprinters opened up their season at the Pumpkin Challenge fall track meet, hosted by St. John’s University in Queens, NY. Domination across both the track events and the field events from the women and men led to 1st place finishes for both teams! All times were converted from hand to FAT. Brittany Georges led the team to sweep both the 100m and the 200m. In the 100m, Georges ran 13.34 for 1st, Jenay Valentine ran 13.84 for 2nd, and Jenna Jackson ran 14.84 for 3rd. Valentine’s 13.84 is good for the second fastest 100m time in the club’s history. In the 200m, Georges won in 29.74. Behind her was Amanda Harding, whose 30.04 is the fourth fastest time ever run for the team. Captain Emma Lesnevich rounded out the top 3, running a time of 33.24. In the 4x100m, Georges, Valentine, Harding, and Jackson won in 57.74–the fourth fastest time in the team’s history.
In the jumps, Jackson’s mark of 3.63m won overall in the long jump, and for the high jump, Kayleigh Miedreich’s mark of 0.99m won as well. Turning to the triple jump, we saw an excellent display from Valentine and Miedreich, who both broke the previous club record. Valentine won overall in 9.68m, and Miedreich was 2nd in 9.58m.
Between sweeping multiple events and breaking a club record, the women put up a total of 42 points to win the meet overall! The men also gave a dominant performance.
In the 100m, they swept: Nate Reynolds ran 11.64, Paul Von Buhr ran 12.44 (12.15 hand time), and Noah Dolan ran 12.44 (12.17 hand time). Nick Benton also competed, coming in 5th in 13.64. For the jumps, there were at least 2 top 10 all time performances in every event competed in. For the long jump, Mase was 2nd with a mark of 5.77m, which is the third best jump in club history. Drew Huffer also scored, jumping 5.41m for 3rd–this is the tenth longest mark ever for the team. Captain Ryan Lewis jumped 5.31m, placing 4th. These same athletes went on to compete in the triple jump, where they not only swept but also all put down marks within the top 10 all time performance list. Huffer won with a 11.86m jump (fourth best all time), Mase was 2nd with 11.51m (fifth best all time), and Lewis snagged a 3rd place finish with 10.52m (eighth best all time). In the high jump, Ward and Huffer tied for 1st, jumping 1.52m–the fifth best mark in club history.
The men’s final score of 51 points also won them the meet. With so many new athletes cracking the top 10 all time performance lists, it is safe to say we are in for a good year. Great job everyone!
