On October 21st, the team ran in NIRCA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Lehigh University. Official results are here.
The women’s team placed 6th overall, earning them a spot in the championship race at NIRCA Nationals, which will be held in East Lansing, MI on November 11th! Alana Waggoner was the first on the team to finish, running a time of 23:37.50 to place 18th. Abby Kaye finished 21st in 23:42.40. Coming in 39th place was Kristen Arborio, who finished in 34:34.00. The Lehigh course is very flat which allowed the team to put down some fast times.
For the men, there are no official results due to an error that occurred on the course. Towards the end of the race, the leading pack of men was directed incorrectly. Cones were set up the wrong way, and this caused them to run a loop that was part of the women’s course, not the men’s. The top runners ran roughly 9km, instead of the standard 8km. This mistake affected our top runners Chris Kitson and Sam Hete, who ran the extra loop, and Brandon Holveck, who ran the correct course, but had to stop for information.
The results are unclear due to this error, but we do know that Kitson placed 6th and Hete placed 8th among the top runners, so congratulations to them for their top finishes! The men’s team has qualified to run in the championship race.
The cross country team is now looking to get some solid training in before Nationals in November. Meanwhile, the sprint team is gearing up to compete in the Pumpkin Challenge Track Meet on October 29th! This is an outdoor track meet held at St. John’s University.
