The Blue Hens had their first indoor meet of the season yesterday at the Fastrack Metro Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY! Eleven top ten all-time performances highlighted the day for the team! Officials results are here.
On the men’s side, Greg Biddle shined as he ran the 400m in 51.48. This is a #5 all-time performance, as well as the fastest time run for the team since 2011! Biddle also competed in the Mile, where he ran 4:38.37 to finish 2nd in his heat.
Also in the 400m was Matt Ward, who won his heat in 53.32. Similarly, Nate Reynolds won his heat of the 200m in 24.09. Other highlights for the men include the 4×400–composed of Biddle, Ward, Pat LaPorte, and Sean Goodwin–who ran 3:37.58 to take 3rd in their heat, and Drew Huffer, who triple jumped 11.46m, #6 all-time.
For the women, Morgan Gallagher made waves in the team’s all-time performance list! She broke the club record for the 400m, running 1:03.18–this time also breaks the outdoor record. She also entered the top ten for the 800m, where she ran a #5 all-time 2:39.23. Finally, Gallagher was joined by Amanda Harding, Brittany Georges, and Emma Lesnevich in the 4×400 where they ran 4:28.96 to break another club record.
Harding also competed in the 200m, where her 28.47 granted her a #2 all-time. Liz Steenkamer ran 2:55.21 in the 800m for #9 all-time.
Kayleigh Miedreich set club records in the 60m hurdles and the high jump, where she put down a time of 10.29 for the hurdles and cleared 1.50m in the high jump. Later, Abby Kaye and Talia Brookstein-Burke–fresh off top finishes at NIRCA Cross Country Nationals–both broke into the top ten all-time performances for the Mile. Kaye ran 5:41.10 for #6 and Brookstein-Burke ran 5:49.30 for #9.
This was a promising meet for the Blue Hens–especially for newcomers LaPorte, Huffer, Gallagher, Harding, Steenkamer, Miedriech, and Brookestein-Burke, who we will expect great things from in the future! For now, things will wind down as the semester comes to a close, but it won’t be long before the team is back on the track. With photography from Evan Driscoll, pictures are below:
