This past weekend, the Blue Hens traveled to Shelbyville, Indiana to compete at NIRCA Nationals! Despite the less than ideal conditions, the team put on a strong showing and saw two club records broken. Results are here.
Brittany Georges ran in the 200m preliminaries on Saturday, clocking in a 26.57 to qualify for the final. Later in the day, Georges broke her own club record in 26.23, which put her in 2nd in the nation. She returned for the 100m on Sunday, where she again won her heat in the preliminaries, running 13.38. In the finals, Georges earned 4th overall in 13.11, breaking her own club record once more. She racked up a total of 13 points for the team over the course of the weekend!
In the relays, the women’s 4×800 composed of Elise LaFramboise, Haley Reid, Emily Hansell, and Emma Bateman placed 10th overall. Their time was 10:45.55. The men’s 4×100, with members Brandon Lichtenstein, Jeff Storm, Mike Mattamira, and Nate Reynolds, clocked in at 46.34 to place 9th–just one spot shy of scoring.
Hansell later ran in the fastest heat of the open 800m, where she crossed the line 2:32.1 to place 12th against a field of 80 runners.
The men’s 5,000m was a big race for the Blue Hens, where Brandon Holveck and Brandon Quanci both ran excellent races in the fastest of 6 heats. Holveck put up a time of 15:45.45 to place 15th. A few seconds later was Quanci, who broke 16 minutes for the first time. He ran a big personal best of 15:47.71, which earned him 17th place.
Matt Ward competed in the 400m, coming off of a month with mono, where he ran 54.60 to place 22nd overall.
