Xinqiao Jia, assistant professor of MSE, has been awarded a 2010 Du Pont Young Professor Award

XinqiaoJia Xinqiao Jia, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, has been awarded a 2010 Du Pont Young Professor Award.  Jia’s primary focus is on the synthesis of functional biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering applications. Her work on the development of elastin mimetic hybrid polymers for vocal fold repair and regeneration was highlighted in Chemical and Engineering News in September 2008. Jia was named Outstanding Junior Faculty in UD’s College of Engineering in 2010.>>Read More

ADVANCE member Anette M. Karlsson has been named chairperson of the University of Delaware’s Department of Mechanical Engineering

KarlssonAnette ADVANCE member Anette M. Karlsson has been named chairperson of the University of Delaware’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, effective Sept. 1, 2009. She had served as interim chairperson since September 2008.Karlsson’s research interests fall primarily in the areas of thermomechanical properties and response of advanced and traditional materials. Her current research includes composite structures, polymer fuel cells, thermal barrier systems, ultralight structures, and instrumented indentation. >>Read More

University of Delaware has received a PAID (Partnerships for Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination) Award

 

NSF Faculty Award The University of Delaware has received a PAID (Partnerships for Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination) award through the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE program. UD’s $307,936 PAID grant will help to transform the culture for women faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at the University of Delaware by educating faculty and administrators in best practices for recruitment and retention.
