Kristi Kiick, Deputy Dean of Engineering and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, has been elected to the 2014 American Chemical Society 2014 Class of Fellows. Prof. Kiick is an expert in the synthesis, characterization and application of biomaterials. Specifically, her research investigates new materials for drug delivery and tissue engineering, focusing on the development of cardiovascular, cancer and vocal fold therapies. Kiick also was named a fellow of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry this year, where she serves on the organization’s board of directors. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Society for Biomaterials and the Controlled Release Society. |

Angela Holmberg, graduate student in chemical and biomolecular engineering, was awarded an American Chemical Society (ACS) Green Chemistry Travel Award. The ACS Green Chemistry Institute is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote “the implementation of green chemistry and engineering across the global chemical enterprise.” Since 2009, the institute has awarded the Ciba Travel Award in Green Chemistry to students “who show endeavor and ability to integrate green chemistry solutions into their research for sustainability.” Angela was chosen for her research on “bio-based alternatives to petroleum-based polymers.” >> Read More |

Pam Cook, professor of mathematical sciences and associate dean of engineering, has been named Unidel Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware. An applied mathematician, her research focuses on mathematical modeling of fluids and the prediction of flow properties, with a current emphasis on complex (visco-elastic) fluids. Professor Cook chaired UD’s Department of Mathematical Sciences for nine years and chaired the University’s Commission on the Status of Women for six years. She is a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and an associate fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics. >> Read More |

The Dean of Engineering presented Hui Fang, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the 2013 College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award at the COE 2013 Convocation ceremony. This award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates true excellence in teaching. Dr. Fang was nominated for this honor by students and recent graduates of the College of Engineering. Professor Fang earned both her MS and PhD degrees from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her BS from Tsinghua University, China. Professor Fang’s research interests focus on text information management, text mining and bioinformatics. |

Holly Michael, assistant professor in the Department of Geological Sciences in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment with joint appointments in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Department of Geography and the School of Marine Science and Policy, has been named the Unidel Fraser Russell Chair for the Environment.
