Study abroad with APEC – Winter 2026 – NEW!
Embark on a transformative three-week study abroad experience in Chile and Patagonia, where the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultures set the stage for an in-depth exploration of sustainable development. Rooted in APEC100 – Sustainable Development, this three-credit course* challenges students to critically engage with issues like natural resource management, environmental protection, and poverty alleviation from local, national, and international perspectives. Combining economics, natural science, ethics, and policy, the program pushes you to think deeply about sustainability while considering trade-offs and the diverse impacts on people and the environment. You’ll stay in hostels, enjoy Chilean cuisine with some meals provided, and forge unforgettable connections with fellow travelers.
Your adventure will take you from Santiago’s bustling streets to the colorful murals of Valparaíso, indigenous communities rich in heritage, and the windswept shores where Magellanic penguins thrive. Marvel at the dramatic landscapes of Torres del Paine National Park as you examine contemporary challenges in sustainable development through immersive classes and excursions. Explore how governments, nonprofits, and individuals can balance human welfare and environmental protection—and grapple with the ethical implications of it all.
Don’t just study sustainability—live it. Join us to gain insights, make memories, and maybe even get a selfie with a penguin. It’s serious learning—with a side of adventure!
*Note: For students who have already taken APEC100, we will be offering an ‘Advanced’ Sustainable Development in Patagonia’ course option.
