Organization: Animal Behavior & Conservation Connections (ABCC)
Location: Near Dover, DE
Position: Internship, Bird Care. Un-paid.
ABCC has summer internship position available from May 26 to August 15, 2016. The position will participate in animal care and husbandry with a focus on a diverse collection of avian species.
The position will fulfill a four day work week. Up to 28 hours per week. The position is based out of our facility near Dover, DE and may be required to participate in offsite events, weekends, holidays and occasional evenings. The intern will have an opportunity to learn foundation to animal care, bird training, free-flight training and public interaction.
The successful intern should possess high motivation for learning and working with birds.
Course work in animal behavior, wildlife education, animal care or related studies preferred.
Preference given to Junior or Senior College students.
Responsibilities and qualities include:
-Honest, motivated and reliable.
-Able and willing to take instructions and implement program as directed.
-Able to work independently or together in a team to achieve goals.
-Be comfortable working with birds.
-Daily care, food prep, feeding and cleaning of bird enclosures.
-Follow husbandry and training protocol as directed.
-Able to work indoors and outdoors.
-Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
-Be willing and able to travel to offsite programs.
-Have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
-Must be drug and drama free.
-Other duties as assigned.
ABCC is a private organization with a mission to provide connections between animals and people through education and interaction via natural behaviors. As a consequence of the connections, we strive to instill a sense of inspiration and conservation stewardship among visitors with whom we come in contact. We are able to do this by working with our animal partners using voluntary approaches to animal training and communication. Our team include but not limited to falcons, vultures, owls, hawks, macaws, cranes, storks, hornbills and jays to name a few. Our educational free flight programs are featured at schools, State Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, Universities and Zoos in the US.

ABCC has a part-time position available April 15, 2016. The position may work up to five days per week. Five hours per day. Average 25 hours per week. The position is based out of our facility near Dover, DE and may be required to participate in offsite events, weekends, holidays and occasional evenings. Flexible schedule and ability to travel is preferred. The position requires hands-on animal care, husbandry, bird training, free-flight training and public interaction/presentation.
The successful candidate will possess a passion for working with birds and be motivated to learn. Experience with animal behavior, wildlife education, animal care or related experiences preferred. Training will be provided. Preference given to graduates or graduating seniors.
