The Hagley Program in the History of Capitalism, Technology, and Culture has been training graduate students in the history of technology, business, the environment, consumer culture, and material culture for more than a half century. At both the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, it offers students a unique environment in which to explore the history of capitalism in the broadest sense, encompassing all its economic, political, social, and cultural dimensions. We are especially proud of the range of projects that our students focus on, ranging from transportation and infrastructure to food and mass media.
We have a close working relationship with the Hagley Museum and Library, one of the nation’s leading institutions dedicated to the history of business and technology, and our graduates go on to a diverse range of academic and non-academic careers. (Many Hagley Scholars get a certificate in Museum Studies as they go through the program, which can be an advantage for those going into public history positions.) If you are interested in learning more about the program, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
