AWARD: The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission.

RISE Professional Internships with German Companies

Award: Good research relies on cooperation, and international teamwork is becoming increasingly important. This means that scientists and engineers with international experience are increasingly sought after in both business and industry. The number of truly exciting professional work programs abroad for students in the sciences and engineering is still far too small. Because of this DAAD set out to create unique opportunities for science and engineering students from the United States and Canada interested in gaining serious practical experience in Germany.

Josephine De Karman Fellowship Trust
Josephine De Karman Fellowship

Award: The Josephine De Karman Fellowship Trust was established in 1954 by the late Dr. Theodore Von Karman, world renowned aeronautics expert and teacher and first director of the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, in memory of his sister, Josephine, who passed away in 1951. The purpose of this Fellowship program is to recognize and assist students whose scholastic achievements reflect Professor Von Karman’s high standards.

The Josephine De Karman Fellowship Trust

Award: Approximately eight (8) fellowships, $22,000 for graduate students and $14,000 for undergraduate students, will be awarded for the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters or the equivalent where the quarterly system prevails), paid through the fellowship office of the university in which the recipient is enrolled for study in the United States.

Boren: Awards for International Study
Boren Fellowships

Award: Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellows represent a variety of academic and professional disciplines, but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Swahili.
